23-05 | album review: ziggi recado - therapeutic - may 2014

Dutch/St. Eustatius reggae pioneer Ziggi recado released his 4th album 'Therapeutic'. Within no time the album made it no.1 on iTunes in Holland. Ziggi again shows some great progress on this album. After the strong E.P. Liberation 2.0 (2013) this talented star is rising with a blaze. Ziggi Recado allready gave us some wonderfull tunes. 'Mary', 'Need to tell you this' and 'Joka Smoka' are just some of his large collection of big tunes. Jamaican singers Lutan Fyah & Earl 16 (alongside Taranchyla (Rasta cool and calm)) join Ziggi on the tracks: 'Guide ova' and 'Jah Mercy' and veteran Vaughn Benjamin (Midnite) (VI) joined the vocalist from St. Eustatius for the conscious 'Earthstrong'. This album is truly therapeutic... Roll a spliff, sit back, dance, listen to and full joy this ya one...
The album takes off with 'Masquerade' an up-tempo roots reggae tune about the things going on inna babywrong right now. Ziggi is offering some love and affection on the sweet sweet 'Got it right here', a typical ziggi recado lover's tune. A little August/Addis pablo vibe is added to 'Miss Outta Road', a tune about the lifestyle of some 'queens' these days. 'Talk about' and 'Luv injection' easily live up to the expectations set by the first three songs. 'I'm blaak' is a serious one, backed by some sweet guitar play, a deep roots tune with an ancient message. Unfortunately racism still lingers on Jah earth. This tune will take you away. Ziggi Recado always has been a herbs promoter and offcourse this album has a strong ganjah tune as well. 'Don't disturb' proves ziggi's love for the high grade herbs and could be the next 'Mary' as far as we are concerned. The first collabo on the album called 'Earthstrong' is about celebrating life. Reggae veteran Vaughn Benjamin (Midnite, VI) brings his spirituality to this ya one. This tune really takes the album to the next level. Sweet keyboard play introduce 'Delete my numba' another lovers song. 'Jah Mercy' is one of the highlights of the album, a collabo with Taranchyla and Jamaican roots-singer Earl 16. An uplifting rasta livity tune. The ones we like best but judge for yuhself offcourse! Powerfull horns are played on this tune and we must say some good musicians worked on the best Ziggi Recado album so far. 'Ras got love' is the only accoustic tune, a binghi riddim is backing this one. The last collabo 'Guide Ova' again is of high quality. Jamaican reggae star Lutan Fyah is a nice extra and his appearance proves that ziggi's name is rising in the international reggae scene. 'Nah know bout u' closes the 'Therapeutic' album (way to soon!) and is an uplifting roots tune. One life, one aim, one destiny...

Conclusion:
The 'therapeutic' album is a certain contender for best Dutch reggae album of the year 2014. After the 'Liberation E.P. 2.0' in 2012 this album is a righteous follow up! Ziggy Recado really sets a new standard for himself as an artist. It looks like Ziggi really grew up. Conscious lyrics, great musicians, powerfull collabo's some real roots rock reggae! If we must point out something negative then it has to be the fact that there are 'only' 13 songs on this album. |
