Well my name is JR Kenna , originally Elaisha de Ridder.. Living in a town called Dronten near Amsterdam. I am from surinamese/Indonesian origin. At what moment reggae music came into your life and how ?
From I was a young kid it always surrounded me, this because my mom and dad were both reggae singers. my mom was an backing vocalist , and my dad a lead singer. My two older brothers and older cousins been rappers, we as kids always been involved with music. We saw you perform at the beneluxXL Reggae Contest in 2014 (2015??). It was a close finish and you ended second in the band contest. What has that contest done for your carreer ? To be honest it didn’t do that much. It was an good experience but there it ends. I got some recognition but thats it. |

Reggae music is a message of course, how do you feel about Rastafari livity and culture?
Reggae music is in my opinion one of the strongest music genres there is. Look at what bob marley his voice nor his music influence people in a lot of ways. This means that it still this powerful to me and so it will never die. It touches me in a certain way I cant really describe, thats the power of reggae music. Its a beautiful thing to see these people live in such healthy circumstances. More people should be down to earth as they do. at the end of the day were all gods creation so we need to appreciate life more like they do
You are in collaboration with the Area026 Music productions organisation. Together you produced some sweet tunes like 'Ganja Addict' (2016), and the 'Here i come' E.P. (2016). What can you tell us about this collabo and your plans for the future with Area026Music productions ?
Area026 made it possible to be a part of great production what turned into great songs. We’ve known each other for a while now and its a great cooperation. Cant say nothing else about it, its just the vibes that take place the right way. Don’t worry more to come !!

Your father (Ken Dread) is a famour reggae pioneer in the Netherlands. No doubt he had some influence in your musical choices. What does he mean to you and to your carreer? Would you still be playing reggae music without him?
Well of course my father influenced me to make reggae music especially when I was young and didn’t like reggae music that much. But I would have been doing this still with or without him that just because it got a spot in my heart through the younger days. I still remember that I used to sit in the back of car and my dad played all kind a reggae music/artists those were all oldschool ‘’GARNET SILK’’ ‘’FREDDIE MCGREGOR’’ ‘’DENNIS BROWN’’ ‘’LUCIANO’’ etcetera , same counts for my mom. Even though I couldn’t really relate to it I still sang all the songs that came up lol.
You are a resident at the ReggaeYard events in Zwolle for a long time now. Why should people come and see you perform at the Hedon and when is the next edition when you will be there ?
Reggaeyard is the greatest reggae party in holland. Its an outstanding vibe, energetic people and so on , its a venue that brings out the best in me. The next edition will be at the 18th a march so I recommend everybody to come out.
Any new productions or other projects coming up you feel people should look out for ?
Cant even tell you that otherwise its not a secret anymore, its god work :p i got alot of good things for me coming this year cant tell much about it yet.
The reggae scene is the Netherlands is growing and especially in these times a very crucial thing in our humble opinion. How do you see the future for reggae music in the Netherlands and Europe?
Holland is one of the European countries that very active in the reggae scene. We’ve got a lot of surinamese artists which uplift this movement, so I give thanks for that , we just should be keep on going and keep it uplifting. From doing this we could accomplish in a way of putting surinamese reggae/dancehall artists on the map.
