event report: michael rose & etana (ja) - Live @ luxor live, arnhem (01-02-2015)

Sunday the 1st of February we had the privilege to see a legend at work. Michael Rose was to perform at Luxor Live in Arnhem and he brought one of our favorite female vocalists Etana 'the strong one'. Of course the performance of Michael Rose promised to be a sweet trip down memory lane, ' 'Good things don't grow old, the just get antique' (Joseph Hill, Culture). We were also very much looking forward to the performance of Etana and her new album 'I rise'. High quality reggae show inna Arnhem and a sweet pre party at Reggae Sunday at Streetcafe, Arnhem. A Blessed sunday full of irie vibes! Both Michael Rose and Etana delivered a proper show. When you are in doubt if you should go to Rotterdam (21 feb) or Amsterdam (22 feb) to see this show...
put your doubts to the side, Yuh cyaan miss this one!!

'the Strong one' Etana
We were looking forward to this performance. This soulful vocalist hailing from Jamaica caught our attention with tunes like 'August Town' and 'Reggae' and made a quality impression with her new album 'I Rise'. Etana lived up to the occasion and you could see her enjoying the vibes. What a wonderful appearance on stage. Power, Soul and a beautiful smile... Girl power as we would say! The women in the audience were dancing and singing along with her tunes, and of course the man followed. A beautiful entrance with 'Selassie is the Chapel' (Bob Marley) and 'On my Way' set the standard for the rest of the performance. One of our favorite tunes 'Jah Chariot' was our highlight of her performance followed closely by 'Reggae' and the sweet sweet 'Jah Jah Blessing'. A tune alongside Alborosie, we simply didn't catch up on one 'bad' tune. We like the fact that this queen comes with more than love songs, and her message is one that deserves to be heard! She took all the time to meet the people afterwards and of course we linked up as well with 'the Strong one' giving a shout out for your online reggae guide!

Michael Rose (Black Uhuru)
Roots reggae legend Michael Rose can easily be seen as one of the pioneers for reggae music back in the days and needs no further introduction. His fame is worldwide and there is a reason for that. He came with a whole bunch of quality reggae classics mixed up with some of his modern tunes like 'Shoot Out' but of course the people came out for tunes like 'Guess who's coming to diner', 'Living Dread', 'I Love king Selassie' and 'Warrior'. He did 'em all and we got what we came for. This veteran simply delivered and a crowded Luxor Live was singing and dancing the night away.
