The Global Reggae Charts becomes six month now. In the new issue of the magazine we feature, for the first time, a reggae musician and not a singer or group. Dean Fraser is a living legend on the saxophone and was strongly involved in the careers of plenty big names on the reggae scene. His new solo album ”Melodies of D.E.B.“ made it to #8 on the album charts and inspired us to put him on the front cover of this months magazine. On the voter side we feature Docta Rythm Selecta and his ”Di Docta Show“ from Costa Rica
Looking at this month’s single charts, we see a lot of new entries. Eleven out of twenty positions are filled with new singles. Alborosie’s ”Living Dread“ made it from #3 to #1 and is followed by Hempress Sativa - our last month’s feature - with her new single ”No Retreat feat. Junior Murvin“. In return the two singles ”Rock it Ina Dance“ and ”Fight for Your Right“ left the charts. The next new entries are ”Jah Guide“ by Black Uhuru feat. Bugle, ”Truths & Rights“ by Protoje feat. Mortimer, Micah Shemaiah with ”Keep On Keeping On“ and Aidonia with ”Yeah Yeah“ on the numbers 6 to 9. Aidonia by the way is the only dancehall track on this month’s charts and one of the few tracks who made it so far. At #14 we find Skip Marley with ”Refugee“ and on the places 16-20 the latest singles by The Hempolics, Royal Sounds, Christos DC, Peace Development Crew and Hollie Cook.
On the album charts the turnover rate is a little under 50% with 4/10 albums new on the charts. The top 3 albums stay the same the last two months. Samory I stays at #1 and Damian Marley and Chronixx switching positions at #2 and #3. New entries are the well made remake album of Lee ”Scratch“ Perry and Subatomic Sound System called ”Super Ape Returns to Conquer“ at #4, EarthKry’s ”Survival“ at #6, our feature artist Dean Fraser with ”Melodies of D.E.B.“ at #8 and New Kingston with ”A Kingston Story: Come from Far“ at #10. The charts are online and can be found at www.globalreggaecharts.com. Voter registration is now open as well. Visit the site for all the details. |
