report: cocoa tea - nice & intimate (02-06-2015)
![]() Groningen is a reggae minded city. Whether it’s dances like The Riddim Club or bigger concerts in venues like De Oosterpoort, the Groningen reggae community is supportive, tight knit and enthusiastic.
Monday June 1st it was Cocoa Tea’s turn to entertain the crowd in De Oosterpoort. With the Reggae Fever festival just around the corner, attracting a large crowd in the same venue just weeks before, unfortunately proved a bit difficult for the Jamaican reggae veteran. Unlike his memorable show in Groningen in February of 2009, the place wasn’t packed. However, even in this more ‘intimate setting’, he managed to captivate his audience with his energy, and his golden oldies: hit songs like ‘I’ve lost my Sonia’ and ‘Eighteen and over’, as well as his musical references to Bob Marley. On Saturday June 27th, the Groningen massive gets another chance to show their love for reggae music, at the Reggae Fever festival. Cocoa Tea will be performing in Luxor Live on Thursday June 4th, supported by Irie Souljah. Report by: Iris Engelsman - Photo's by: Lesley Pietens |
