< DAy 1 Click here | we catched a vibe at reggae geel 2014 (day 2) - what a festival...

Camping vibes
Waking up in a likkle tent is always a bit tough, but the moment you step outside you are ready for day 2, people slowly getting up and the sun was shining brightly. We could hear the first reggae sounds coming over the tents and we went for the sound we could hear the best. A little sound system was pumping some Reggae on the camping and this is exactly what Reggae Geel is (or maybe was) all about. Sound System Culture. A good way to wake up... the best even. A nice way to spent some time and wait for the festival gates to open up again...
What a day was ahead of us, we couldn't wait. Rapha Pico & The Rootsrockers, Raging Fyah, Jesse Royal, Protoje & the Indiggnation band, I-Octane, Midnite, Daddy U-Roy, Sanchez and Damian Marley. A line-up could be worse ... :). All class acts and all we could do is hope that we could even find some space to get something to eat.. that was going to be hard because the 18 Inch Corner also brought us some class acts like Jah Youth, Yaadcore, Braindamage & Vibronics and Lyrical Benjie today... tough choices to be made...

Crucial Alphonso ft. Lyrical Benjie & Missing Link
Opening the 18 Inch Corner on Saturday and they did it in style. After the gates were open people directly came to the corner to start off the party. Lyrical Benjie is one of our favourites and of course we were there first, also to enjoy the sight of the 18 Inch corner getting full of beautifull people

Rapha Pico & the Rootsrockers
Rapha Pico & the RootsRockers were the only Dutch act on the Mainstage this year. They have won the BeneluxXL Reggae Contest and clearly deserved their spot on this stage. A very talented band we've seen for a couple of times now and they always deliver. Perfect roots music with pure vocals. Real ambassadors for Reggae music from the Netherlands and we are sure we will hear more about this band who already recorded an E.P. called 'Roots' in the TuffGong studios in Jamaica. Tunes like 'Roots', 'Caribbean woman' and 'The road is hard' warmed up the crowd for what was about to come... Big up to Rapha Pico & the RootsRockers for representing quality roots reggae music outta Holland!! (There is many more where that came from...!!)

Raging Fyah
An act we were looking forward to for some time now. Raging Fyah also is part of the Reggae Revival movement and this band has the potential to become the new Steel Pulse for as far as we are concerned. What a class act, perfect roots reggae music with beautifull vocals. 'Jah Glory', 'Judgement days' and 'Nah look back' have the potential to become classics one by one. This group of talented youngster will play many festivals in the future we are sure. Simply a matter of time before they will be headliners all around Europe. This group youngsters coming from Jamaica will go all the way without a doubt. What a joy it was to see this live performance at Reggae Geel 2014

Midnite: Legends at Work
A natural mystic is blowing through the air when Midnite starts to play. These legends dont need no introduction. The roots reggae artists hailing from the Virgin Island did many classic tunes like 'Rasta to the Bone' and 'Propaganda' and the people loved the deep roots sound of the band. Midnite is not a band that will make the crowd go wild but there is another meditation going on, you have to let yourself in and enjoy the vibes Midnite is bringing. The spiritual voice and the appearance of Vaughn Benjamin is unique...

One of the other stages on Reggae Geel is called the Yard and offers talented artists a stage and a chance to make name for themselves. There was big session (Which we completely missed) on Friday with United Sounds (NL, Shuga (JAM) and Kenny B (SUR/NL) and we would have loved to be there. We cannot say anything about it except BIG UP to the organisation for creating such a stage. We saw some pictures come by, and it was crowded so the vibes must have been nice!! Verse Ital also made his appearance on this stage and later on we went to go to listen to Karel 'Jah Shakespear' Michiels and his lecture on RastafarI. Giving a lecture while legends Midnite are playing is not an easy thing, but a nice group of people showed up, sat down and listen to this interesting speech. It is a must (in our opinion) to keep RastafarI banner flying high on reggae festivals

Yaadcore
Yaadcore also is part of the Reggae Revival and often comes alongside acts like Protoje and Chronixx to warm up the crowd. A conscious deejay with a beautiful attitude who made his debut at Reggae Geel and he could play his tunes for over 2 hours and the crowd enjoyed a sweet mix between powerfull DUB re-mixes of Chronixx, Protoje, jah9 tunes... but also some powerfull DUB tracks. Yaadcore also really made name for himself with his performance. We like a deejay who plays the entire tune, to give the people a chance to fulljoy the entire track!

Jesse Royal & the Indiggnation Band
Another member of the Reggae Revival is Jesse Royal (are they taking over?) and again a quality performance on the Main stage. It's becoming a bit dull to say but again it's just a matter of time before this young artist will follow acts like Protoje and Chronixx and tour Europe solo. (What a generation coming from Jamdown these days!! so many talents we lost count) A powerful but again conscious performance. 'The hotter battle' and 'Modern day Judas' were the highlights. Jesse Royal came on stage to perform alongside Protoje and that was a nice extra. The two friends from Jamaica sharing a stage on one of the best Reggae festivals in Europe. It was a true blessing to witness this performance

Protoje & the Indiggnation Band
What can we say about Protoje & the Indiggnation Band what haven't been sad already? Some see him as the new Marley, others think of him as a commercial product. One thing is for sure, his performance always is outstanding and we are big fans! 'Who Knows' (alongside Chronixx) was his only new tune compared to last year but that was no problem, the energy of Protoje but also the power and joy coming off his indiggnation band are a joy for the eyes and ears. Always a pleasure... we are looking forward to the '10 Year Anniversary'...

Daddy U-Roy
Another legend entered the stage. Daddy U-Roy is very well known for his Deejaying performances of course ..'As i would say'.. but very much enjoyable with a live band for sure. His humble appearance and his late tunes alongside Richie Stephens, Alborosie and Gentleman made us really look forward seeing this legend perform. And again also Daddy U-Roy delivered. Not one disappointment yet at this year's Reggae Geel and with Damian Marley coming we were pretty sure we were going for a clean sweep. A big selection of classic tunes helpen U-Roy through the hour like it was 10 minutes. Nuff Nuff respect for this legend!

Jah Youth (18 Inch Corner)
Jah Youth aka the Roots Ambassadors brought us a great selection of BIG tunes, from the Viceroys to Jah9. They created great vibes and fulljoyed this session themselves obviously. An ongoing session for 3 hours and never a bad tune. What a nice sight it was to see the family perform on stage!

Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley
Major headliner of course was Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley. Mr. Marley was in Belgium for an exclusive show in Europe this summer. The field of Reggae Geel almost bursted by all the people who wanted to go upfront. The atmosphere created by this act almost was a little bit to much for the already expanded Reggae Geel terrain. Damian Marley came full force and blew the crowd away with a stunning performance, one of the best we have ever seen. A perfect mix between his dancehall tunes, roots tunes and some of his fathers tunes. 'War', Could you be loved' and 'No more trouble' were just a few of the highlights of this performance next to 'Affairs of the heart', 'Road to Zion', 'There for you', 'Beautifull', 'It was written' and of course 'Welcome to Jamrock'. We simply couldn't get enough. This is the feeling we get up for every Monday morning troddin' down a Babylon...

a BIG BIG UP FOR REGGAE GEEL 2014
What a festival it was! From friday morning to Saturday night. Just perfect. The weather, the vibes, the people, the music, the food... just perfect... This has to be one of the best organized festivals their is. We are coming for eight years in a row now and we just cannot imagine the day that we wont be going to Geel in the first weekend of August. It is a must! This festival is definitely ready for an extra Sunday but that's up to the organization, to quit at your peak is an art like we told you last time, and Reggae Geel succeeds every time. Special thanks to Johan Tackx for inviting us over to make this report. And many many thanks for all the beautiful people we met and linked up with. Beautiful things come out of that we are sure!
We had a blast and we can't wait until next time!

ONE LOVE, RASTAFARI !!!
