report: rastaplas festival 2015, north aa beach zoetermeer (18-07-2015)
![]() Off to the Rastaplas festival 2015 we were. After last year's succesful edition we went with over 60 people out of Arnhem in a Touring car. Dub Nation Crew & Reggae Agenda linked up to organize this bus trip leaving from de Brigant, Arnhem. The line-up was very promising with acts like King Shiloh, Triston Palma, Heights Meditation, Super Natural Selection, Faya Milla & the One World Band and of course main-act Channel One Sound with a DJ-set on the mainstage. Out of Many and Original Dub Radix hosted their own area and many Dutch sounds were playing during the breaks. Red Eye Crew, United Sounds and Black Star Sound made the massive skank to their tunes. All ingredients were there for a perfect day and a perfect day it turned out to be. BIG up to the organisation for keeping reggae/rasta festivals alive ina Holland. We even heard some rumours about a multi-day festival...

The vibe was right at the beautiful AA-Beach in Zoetermeer when we came. We were a bit early but that was no problem of course. The moment the gates opened we went for the King Shiloh corner and had a nice warm up for the festival sitting, laying, enjoying, swimming, drinking, eating, laughing, chatting and listening... the GOOD life. Rastaplas is a pure festival with good vibes. Not to big and not to small. Just perfect! To get a good impression check out our Aftermovie.
Heights Meditation Band The winners of the BeneluxXL Reggae Contest 2015 band finals traditionally opened this festival. Our first time to watch this band play and they live up to our expectations. A righteous winner who played a combination of their own tunes and some covers. |

The beautiful cover of Night Nurse by the legendary Gregory Isaacs was one of the hightlights of their performance and the three singers were a good combination. A group of quality musicians played the riddims perfectly and again this is proof of the growing quality of Dutch reggae music. Big up to Heights Meditation and we are looking forward to their performance at Reggae Geel 2015

Faya Milla & One World Band
Faya Milla came after the Heights Meditation Band and they also delivered a quality performance. We catched a few tunes of dem (See our aftermovie for Rastaplas) and this one also is representing the Dutch reggae music nowadays. Conscious looks and lyrics.
A band with a great attitude and one to keep a special eye out for as well! This band is playing for some time now and they definetly deserved this stage to show their skills to the Dutch massive who enjoyed their performance as we could clearly see.

King Shiloh Sound System
Hosting their own area at this years Rastaplas Festival we simply couldn't miss this ya one. King Shiloh brought their new sound and they just blew the Rastaplas away. Loud, Clear, Massive and Conscious. It is hard to explain to one who hasn't experienced the Biggest independent sound in Europe. When they are near go and join them for a session. You wont regret it for sure!! The players of instruments and singers were there. Lyrical Benjie, Nish Wadada, Steven Momoh, Xoveryouth Fam, Ras Cloud Butoyi and probably some artists we missed. BIG Session, King Shiloh Sound System simply always delivers.

Out of Many Sound System ft. Original Dub Radix Crew
Out Of Many invited the Original Dub Radix crew, which is building their own Masego Sound System, which will be finished this autumn! They are well known for their roots and dub sessions in Worm Rotterdam with King Shiloh, Murray Man, Ras ibi and many more! They hosted their own dub corner on the other side of the festival, a tough job alongside acts like King Shiloh and Channel One Sound but they pulled it off greatly, and created an inspiring and dubbing atmosphere.

Prince Naffy & Super Natural Selection ft. Lighta
For the first time playing on Rastaplas Super Natural Selection came full force. A large group of musicians (mostly from Gelderland) came on stage and you could see them fulljoying a stage like this. Last year SNS released 2 videoclips and now they finally got the chance to show their skills and spread their message to a proper reggae massive. Fans of this group even brought some banners to support their local heroes going national. 'Dreader than dread' was one of the highlights of the show which included pure roots reggae music and lyrics. Prince Naffy (Oldskool Rotterdam) started this band years ago and now they are growing fast. They had their album release party in Luxor Live, Arnhem earlier this year for their latest album and again we ask you to keep a special eye out

Triston Palma & Fiyah Nation Band
Alongside the great variety of Dutch reggae acts there was Triston Palma who needs no introduction. A legend of course. One of best known tunes Joker Smoker was my highlight for this show. Pure quality and nothing else. Rastaplas festival always tries to give the people some Jamaican vibes as well and they succeeded perfectly. Jah sun was shining bright and Triston Palma obviously had a great time giving the people what they came for. Smooth and sweet reggae music from back in the days. The Fiyah Nation Band is probably one of Hollands finest backing bands. We have seen them on many ocassions now alongside BIG artists and they always live up to the expectations.

Channel One Sound
The last act was Channel One sound. We saw them at the Reggaebus festival last year for a three hour session on a full sound system. It was great to see them again but although the main stage had some good sound (they added some extra bass for this show) we were guided back by the impressive bass coming out of the Shiloh corner. We stayed at Channel one for 45 mins. One big tune after another. They asked the audience not to look at them as an act but to look at each other and dance. Come together in oneness. (Movies Channel one sound in Rastaplas festival aftermovie)

King Shiloh Sound System
We needed to get back to King Shiloh for their closing hour and it was MASSIVE!!! words cannot explain the experience. They went all out. The crowd simply went crazy and the energy was impressive. On and on and on... Check out our aftermovie for an impression of the session. King Shiloh finished their new set this year and what a joy it is to be in the middle of their set. The bass was pumping like a mad man but still the lyrics were loud and clear. impressive.

See you at Rastaplas 2016 ?
A beautiful message by Channel One Sound, perfectly fitting the Rastaplas festival experience. Togetherness, smiling people, children playing undisturbed, grown ups becoming children again, dancing like crazy, good food (vegan and meat), good prices, proper reggae music and messages. Two Sound Areas and a main stage. It was simply to much to cover all but we did our best. BIG up to the Rastaplas festival organisation for making this possible and although we heard some rumors about Reggae Sundance coming back in 2016 as an one day festival. The Rastaplas festival is holland finest at the moment there is no doubt about that!
